7 ways artists ruin their image because of social networks

1. Publish too much

We all know on Facebook and Youtube in particular, the artists who spend their whole time promoting their music, page or channel. Let's be clear: this is a waste of time and a total lack of respect. It is one of the worst methods to attract new fans. Such an attitude immediately discredits you towards the communities where you publish and the social networks that will identify you as a spammer. Create a connection and prioritize your pages to communicate first. Publish regularly, but take into account the fact that each platform has its own limits, like Facebook, where it is not recommended to publish more than twice a day. As such, put quality ahead of quantity to gain the trust of your fans. This is what will make your publication more visible to your audience.

2. Speak only about yourself

You're beautiful. You make good music. I'm sure you do. However, as in any exchange, your posts on social networks should not constantly put you in the spotlight. Talk with and about your fans, ask them questions about their tastes and opinions, share news that might interest them and what they might like. How do you know this? Get to know your fans. Have sincere conversations and your audience loyalty will only grow.

3. Not adapting content to the platform

Far too many artists repeat themselves in their content across platforms. Republishing on another social network is not enough: you have to adapt to the media. Indeed, each of the social networks has its own rules that your fans expect you to follow and that guarantee you better visibility. For example, sharing an Instagram photo directly on your Twitter or Facebook account will have less impact than if the photo was originally published from these networks. Republishing your tweets on Facebook is a waste of time and ultimately a waste of fans, because it is inconsistent. You have to understand that each network has its own audience and that you don't share the same things on all platforms. Twitter users are very different from Google+ or TikTok users. By diversifying your content across media, you will give even more reasons for your fans to subscribe to all your pages.

4. Constantly looking to sell

Whether you want to sell your music, your concerts or your t-shirts, do it sparingly on social networks. In addition to reducing the organic reach of your posts, intense promotion will cool down and bore your fans. They're hoping for a real relationship and want to share a bit of your world. Bring them value through your music and your everyday life (songs, stories, covers, photos, blog posts, etc.) and you will have a much better chance of making them fans who are conquered and likely to want to help you financially. 5. Never interacting with their community

In addition to the publications mentioned in the second point about your fans, it is fundamental to go further and to push this concept to its climax. By definition, these networks are meant to be "social", so act like this, with communication going both ways. This means that you must respond to comments, questions and messages that you receive in private as well as in public in order to enhance the exchange. No one likes to be ignored. And even less so by their favourite artist or band. 6. Buying fake fans and subscribers

If you think that the importance of social networks comes down to your number of fans and subscribers, then you're totally wrong. Only the engagement of your community really matters. Buying fake fans may artificially increase your fanbase, but nobody else will interact with your posts. In the end, in the medium term nothing will have really changed. Moreover, unfortunately for you, this deception will be easily spotted by music professionals and even your own community, for whom you will appear to be far from professional. Don't waste your time and money in these obvious scams and be patient in your strategy. In short, have fun and bring your community with you.
